Dr. Michael Yamashita is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Manitoba and a Cardiac Surgeon at St. Boniface Hospital. He attended medical school at McGill University and went on to pursue his Cardiac Surgery residency training at the University of British Columbia. During his residency, he completed a Master of Public Health at Harvard University and won the Dr. Paul Cartier Cardiac Surgery Resident Award in 2011. Following residency, he completed fellowships at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in complex valve repair and heart failure surgery and at the Cleveland Clinic in Aortic and Endovascular Surgery. Dr. Yamashita currently serves as the Director of Complex Thoracic Aortic Surgery and the Director of the Manitoba Thoracic Aortic Diseases Clinic at St. Boniface Hospital. He is also the Surgical Co-Director of Heart Failure – ECMO Program. Dr. Yamashita has developed a strong research portfolio with over 50 peer reviewed publications and is the co-investigator for several clinical trials.
