Dr James White is a Clinician Scientist and Clinical Cardiologist at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute where he is Director of the Stephenson Cardiac Imaging Centre. He is a Peak Scholar and Professor of Medicine in the Departments of Cardiac Sciences and Diagnostic Imaging and is Co-Chair of the Libin Data Initiative. Dr White leads an expanding translational and clinical research program, called the Personalized Diagnostics Program (PDP), focussed on development and validation of innovative approaches to achieving Personalized Cardioascualr Care. His research applies machine-learning based techniques to large, prospectively captured population health and diagnostic test repositories to achieve automated diagnosis and personalized risk prediction modelling. The latter is focussed on clinically relevant outcomes in cardiovascular medicine, such as heart failure hospitalization, atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmia. To date he has published over 130 peer-reviewed publications, while maintaining peer-reviewed funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Heart and Stroke Foundation, and other funding organizations. He has also successfully migrated health innovations into the commercial sector, receiving awards in healthcare innovation at both the Institutional and Provincial level. Dr White supervises Post-doctoral fellows, PhD students, and Masters students in collaboration with data scientists from the University of Calgary and Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute. He is principal investigator of the Cardiovascular Imaging Registry of Calgary (CIROC), co-PI of the Cardiotoxicity Prevention Research initiative (CAPRI) and leads several multi-centre research initiatives focussed in cardiovascular MRI and cardiomyopathy.
