Louis-Mathieu Stevens is a clinician-scientist, full professor and active cardiac surgeon with a PhD in biomedical sciences (applied biostatistics). His clinical research program in outcome research in adult cardiac surgery includes his randomized controlled trial comparing two coronary artery bypass grafting strategies (AMI-PONT; 200 patients; funded by CIHR). He developed a multidisciplinary program for Early Recovery After Cardiac Surgery in his institution (ERACS) for which he has secured funding from MEDTEC. He is the director of the provincial clinical registry in adult cardiac surgery, producing personalized reports to cardiac surgery centers and individual surgeons to promote quality improvement initiatives, and created an adapted risk score for cardiac surgery in Quebec. He is involved in other large international clinical trials and research groups (Canadian Thoracic Aortic Collaborative Investigators, PHRI). He is actively involved in lung transplantation, both clinically and as the administrator of the clinical registry in lung transplantation at the CHUM, the only program in Quebec (> 60 cases / year). He supervises many students at the master and PhD level and gives yearly epidemiology and biostatistics lectures to medical students, residents (surgery, cardiac surgery, radiology) and fellows.
