Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

understand the key recommendations of the new Canadian Cardiovascular Society guidelines for cardiorenal risk reduction (CanMEDS roles: Medical Expert, Leader);
identify opportunities to incorporate SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists into routine cardiovascular practice in the setting of heart failure (HF), chronic kidney disease (CKD), or sub-optimally controlled type 2 diabetes (T2D) (CanMEDS roles: Medical Expert, Leader); and,
discuss how to safely implement SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists and provide recommendations for avoiding or managing side effects (CanMEDS roles: Medical Expert, Professional).

This program will focus on applying the principles of the new cardiorenal guidelines using a patient-journey approach. The faculty will follow a patient through different stages, focusing on

heart failure,
chronic kidney dysfunction, and
A1C control, while providing strategies on how to apply the guidelines.
