Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

classify ejection fraction using the new universal definition of heart failure (CanMEDS roles: Medical Expert, Scholar);
understand the principles of heart failure with improved long-term ejection fraction (2022 AHA/ACC/HFSA Guidelines) (CanMEDS roles: Medical Expert, Leader);
discuss how to identify appropriate treatments for patients (CanMEDS roles: Medical Expert, Leader);
identify mimickers of HFpEF and discuss the unique features of “super PEF” (CanMEDS roles: Medical Expert, Leader); and,
apply evidence-based guidelines for the management of heart failure (AHA/ACC/HFSA Guidelines, ESC Guidelines, CCS Guidelines) (CanMEDS roles: Medical Expert, Leader, Professional).

This program will delve into the topic of ejection fraction in the context of heart failure management. The program will cover content to support better patient outcomes and will include topics such as classification of ejection fraction, the role of ejection fraction in clinical decision making, mimickers of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), and key aspects of HFpEF diagnosis and management.
