Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

incorporate evidence and practical considerations to manage the use of DOACs in special populations;
evaluate the role of DOACs in the management of LV Thrombus;
develop a treatment plan for a patient with HIT;
demonstrate the ability to manage DOACs in patients with obesity; and
identify and implement tools to support everyday clinical practice, evidence-based decision making, and monitoring of patient on DOACs.

This workshop will contribute to attendees’ development as anticoagulation stewards, optimally and safely managing the use of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) across cardiac conditions. Presenters will provide an overview of the latest evidence and practical knowledge with a focus on the use of DOACs in special populations as seen through the perspective of pharmacists. Workshop attendees will be encouraged to engage in active learning by working through multiple challenging interactive cases, including DOAC use in LV thrombus, HIT, and obesity.
