At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

review and analyze the epidemiology, treatment patterns and outcomes of patients with worsening heart failure (WHF) in a population-based cohort from Alberta, Canada; and,
discuss strategies to overcome care gaps and the underutilization of guideline directed medical therapy (GDMT) in patients with heart failure and a reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).

Patients with heart failure (HF) and a reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) are at an increased risk of experiencing worsening heart failure (WHF) which is associated with adverse outcomes and significant morbidity and mortality. This is compounded by the fact that the epidemiology of WHF in broad populations remains uncertain. As new therapies emerge, there is a need to evaluate their inclusion in the patient management of WHF, in addition to optimizing guideline directed medical therapy (GDMT). In this exciting session at the CCC 2022, Dr Justin Ezekowitz and Dr Stephanie Poon share novel epidemiological data regarding treatment patterns and outcomes in patients with WHF in a population-based cohort from Alberta, Canada. The experts will discuss the need to improve the adoption of current and future GDMT in the care of these patients.
