Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

identify the strengths and limitations of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in patients presenting with a chest pain;
identify the role of cardiac magnetic resonance in the workup of MINOCA (myocardial infarction with non-obstructive coronary arteries);
identify the role of cardiac magnetic resonance in myocarditis and pericarditis;
identify the role of cardiac magnetic resonance in macro- and microvascular disease; and
identify the role of cardiac magnetic resonance for risk stratification in myocardial infarction.

Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) can make valuable contributions to the assessment of the chest pain patient. In this SCMRI Canada workshop, we will review the role of CMR in chest pain patients. Four talks will be presented, followed by an interactive audience discussion. Our presentations will focus on:

The role of CMR perfusion imaging in macro- and microvascular disease. Aside from diagnosing epicardial coronary disease-related hypoperfusion, the diagnosis of microvascular disease can be very valuable to understand chest pain etiology.
The role of CMR in MINOCA (myocardial infarction with non-obstructive coronaries): CMR can help physicians understand pathomechanisms and underlying disease in patients with myocardial infarction, in the presence of non-obstructive coronary arteries.
The role of CMR in myocarditis and pericarditis. This is of special interest during the current COVID-19 pandemic.
The role of CMR for risk stratification in myocardial infarction, including hemorrhagic myocardial infarction.

The presenters will also review the role of CMR in the workup of chest pain syndromes in women. Reference will be made to the recently published American Heart Association Chest pain guidelines. The theoretical aspects will be supported by exemplary cases. There will be discussion time at the end to answer questions from the audience.
