Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

describe the challenges in attracting and retaining health care professionals into the sub-speciality of adult congenital heart disease;
describe the new training pathway for a cardiologist specializing in adult congenital heart disease;
describe the challenges of delivering optimal care of heart failure in the individual with adult congenital heart disease;
describe the challenges of delivering optimal care of electrophysiology care in the individual with adult congenital heart disease; and
gain a perspective on the lived experience of being an individual with congenital heart disease and the lifetime journey of dealing with the health care system.

In this CACHNET spotlight we will discuss how can we improve care in the adult with congenital heart disease.

We will focus on where we are currently on how we envisage improving care in the coming 5 to 10 years.

We will focus on 4 topics:

Dr Luc Beauchesne will speak to how can improve recruitment and retention in the health care provider workforce? Attention will be focussed on the development of new training pathways such as the creation of the ACHD fellowship pathway from the Royal College.
Dr Krish Nair will speak on the topic of arrhythmia in ACHD. We will examine the burden of arrhythmia in our ACHD population and how new advances may alter outcomes.
Dr Lucy Roche will speak on the topic of heart failure within ACHD. We will examine the problem of heart failure within the community and how we can improve outcomes in our patients
Finally we will hear from Ms Shelagh Ross. A person with lived experience of congenital heart disease. She will talk to us on what individuals with congenital heart disease want on how we as healthcare workers can work in partnership with the ACHD community to deliver better care.
