Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

understand the approach to sudden death risk stratification in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy;
understand the management of patients with an incidental Brugada syndrome ECG; and
identify patients with cardiomyopathy that would benefit from genetic testing.

The workshop “Challenging Clinical Cases for the Cardiologist” will include 3 case-based presentations and cover the following topics: 1) Implantation of defibrillators in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; 2) Management of a patient with a Brugada ECG, and 3) Indication of genetic testing in cardiomyopathy.There is generally a limited appreciation regarding the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmic genetic conditions in the general cardiology community. This workshop will fulfill the learning needs of those seeking a practical approach to challenging cases in this field. The workshop aims to target specific arrhythmogenic genetic conditions which represent frequent challenges to all of those involved in the clinical management of patients in cardiology. It aims to provide participants with a practical approach to 3 arrhythmogenic genetic conditions: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, Brugada syndrome, and dilated cardiomyopathy. Specific aspects of ECG interpretation in these conditions will also be reviewed.The education committee planned this workshop. Members of this committee include community and academic cardiologists, electrophysiologists, cardiology residents and allied professionals from diverse practices and experience across Canada. The education committee is composed of representatives from each of the following regions: British Colombia, Prairies, Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic Provinces.
