191 - SPC EDUCATION WORKSHOP: FOSTERING AND SUPPORTING A SAFE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT IN THE CARDIOVASCULAR SCIENCES

This interactive workshop invites participants to examine three common situations that can result in compromise to the psychological safety of the clinical or research-based learning environment. Using video-based scenarios, the workshop will ask participants to reflect (in pairs) on the specific issues depicted by completing a structured worksheet. Facilitated discussions about the nature and prevalence of the particular issue, and how it might be mitigated, will follow. After each discussion, a short presentation of literature-based strategies to improve the learning environment will be shared. This sequence will be repeated after each scenario. At the end of the workshop, participants will be invited to commit to a single item they will change in order to facilitate a more positive learning environment in their own educational setting.

This workshop will be highly interactive. The “work” that participants will be invited to do includes:
• Completion of a structured worksheet through pair-and-share activities that follow each of a series of three video scenarios. A total of 3 videos will be reviewed and three worksheets completed.
• Participating in large group discussion about the issues depicted in the videos, and how the challenges shown might be mitigated
• Committing to a specific change they will make in their own educational practices to improve the learning environment within their own educational setting.
