Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

identify patients with cardiogenic shock in various clinical settings;
apply new concepts in the management and treatment of patients with cardiogenic shock;
incorporate current and emerging clinical evidence in the management of patients with cardiogenic shock; and
acknowledge the importance of developing a multi-disciplinary system of care for patients with cardiogenic shock.

While significant advances in the diagnosis and management of heart failure have been made in the last several decades, there continues to be an under-recognition of patients that present with cardiogenic shock. Cardiogenic shock is caused by severe impairment of cardiac performance that results in reduced cardiac output and end-organ hypoperfusion. Despite contemporary management of patients, the mortality remains high.

This symposium is designed for those who care with patients with cardiogenic shock, from the initial presentation in the field, or the emergency department, to the intensivists in specialized heart failure units. The multidisciplinary faculty will discuss the importance of diagnosis, treatment as well as the benefits of developing an infrastructure for the delivery of care within the confines of your specific system of care.
