Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

identify and manage patients at risk with tricuspid regurgitation on CIEDs;
differentiate the subcutaneous implantable cardiac defibrillator from the transvenous implantable cardiac defibrillator in term of lead related complications at the implant; and
identify patients in whom the left handle pacing could be a good option.

The workshop "exploring old and new technologies in CIEDs" will include 3 case-based presentations and cover the following topics:
1) Management of tricuspid regurgitation secondary to Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices (CIEDs).
2) Review of the risks and benefits of Subcutaneous-Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (S-ICD) versus Transvenous implantable cardioverter defibrillator (TV-ICD): Insights from the Atlas study
3) Evaluation of the latest data available on left bundle pacing (LBP)

Generally, there is a limited appreciation of a rational approach to these particular arrhythmia cases. This workshop will fulfill the learning needs of those seeking a comprehensive and practical approach to these difficult arrhythmia scenarios. Difficult arrhythmia cases like those addressed in this workshop are a frequent challenge to all involved in the clinical management of patients. Workshop participants will also learn how to recognize and manage patients with tricuspid regurgitation on CIEDs, what are the benefit of the S-ICD over the TV-ICD in term of lead-related complications at the implant, and in whom and when propose LBP to our patients.

The CHRS education committee planned this workshop. Members of this committee include community and academic cardiologists, electrophysiologists, cardiology residents and allied professionals from diverse practices and experience across Canada. The education committee is composed of representatives from each of the following regions: British Colombia, Prairies, Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic Provinces.
