Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

identify when to refer for advanced heart failure assessment in patients with restrictive, hypertrophic and amyloid cardiomyopathy;
recognize the signs of failing right ventricle for which advanced heart failure treatment may be indicated; and
appreciate the increased risk of end-organ damage with these cardiomyopathies, and that these sequelae could limit therapeutic options.

Some specific cardiomyopathies have much higher risk of developing contraindications to heart transplant, while being less suitable to long-term LVAD. The timing of referral for advanced heart failure therapy is especially critical for patients affected by these diseases. Meanwhile, the ideal time to list these patients for heart transplantation is much more difficult to establish than for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. CCTN heart transplant listing priority criteria have been reviewed in 2021, and now incorporate specific criteria for some of these patients.

This session aims to raise awareness of the importance of early referral for heart transplant, especially for certain cardiomyopathies.

3 speakers with 12 minutes of presentation each, with 7 minutes for discussion and questions (managed by the co-chairs) after each session.
