Abigail E. Chaffin, MD, FACS, CWSP, FAPWCA, is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Tulane University Department of Surgery, in the Section of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She is Section Chief of Plastic Surgery. She is also the Program Director of the Tulane University/Ochsner Clinic Plastic Surgery Residency Program.
Dr. Chaffin is also the Medical Director of the MedCentris Wound Healing Institute at Tulane and Metairie. She focuses her clinical practice on complex wound reconstructive surgery, abdominal wall reconstruction, breast reconstruction, and general reconstructive plastic surgery.
Dr. Chaffin has lectured and published extensively in the fields of reconstructive plastic surgery and complex wound reconstructive surgery. Recent publications include work on immediate lymphatic reconstruction for prevention of secondary lymphedema, extracellular matrix graft for reconstruction over exposed vital structures, and surgical management of Hurley stage 3 hidradenitis suppurativa.
Dr. Chaffin is also active in academic plastic surgery societies including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons, and the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the SESPRS.
