Dr. Danielle (Dani) Carroll earned her B.A. with dual majors in Bioethics and Italian through the Echols Program at the University of Virginia, after which she was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force. She flew jets as an officer on active duty, later transitioning into the Reserve to attend medical school back at UVa. After completing 3 years of General Surgery residency, Dani paused clinical training to serve as NASA/TRISH Space Health Innovation Fellow, simultaneously completing dual master's degrees in Aerospace Engineering (Bioastronautics) and Engineering Management through the University of Colorado Boulder. She has served as Principal Investigator on a NASA research grant through TRISH, providing consulting services for a variety of projects related to commercial spaceflight, medical care, and procedural intervention in the austere environment of deep space, which complemented her recent role as President of the Space Surgery Association. Alongside Aerospace Medicine-related work, Dani serves on the Board of Directors for the University of Virginia Medical Alumni Association and continues to lead several ongoing efforts to develop of innovative technologies intended to support human health, both on Earth and in space. She relocated to Norfolk, VA in May 2022 to complete her last two years of General Surgery residency, while serving concurrently as an Air National Guard Flight Surgeon at Langley Air Force Base. In her free time, Dani enjoys traveling, SCUBA diving, teaching flying, and running with her rescue pup, Rosie.
