Clinicians do not have a good understanding how physician reimbursement rates are determined, either by CMS or insurance companies. This session will review the process of how CPT payment codes are developed, how they are valued by the RUC committee, and how these payments can later be adjusted by CMS, insurers, and the Congressional political process.

Learning Objectives:

Understand the CPT coding application and approval process for new procedures
Summarize how the RUC evaluates procedures for reimbursement
Describe how the Clinical Labor Update decreased payments for office interventional procedures
Recall examples of AVLS advocacy on third-party medical policy proposals
