The ABVLM is an independent, non-profit organization established in 2007 that certifies US & Canadian physicians in venous & lymphatic medicine (VLM). The certification process involves meeting prerequisites in education (45 VLM CME in past 3 years), clinical experience (Case Log of 200 cases), and passing a 4-hour, 200-item multiple-choice exam. Details are in our Application Criteria PDF. The historical exam pass rate is 86%, and ABVLM has certified 988 physicians. The annual exam is held at PearsonVUE Testing Centers in the late summer. Several self-study opportunities are on our website. An AVLS review course is offered annually in the Spring. ABVLM also promotes the formation of one-year academic VLM Fellowships, and it has accredited 9 fellow positions in VLM Fellowship programs, adhering to ACGME standards.
