Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor
Reno Public Safety Dispatch
RENO, Nevada
As a Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor for the City of Reno, Erin Yeung is no stranger to the challenges that telecommunicators and dispatch managers face on a daily basis. She is passionate about mental health and finding new ways to apply actionable concepts to the dispatch environment so that everyone who works so hard in this profession can stay healthy and fit for duty,
Erin is the dispatch lead for the Reno Police Department Peer Support team and recently served on the board of a non-profit built to help first responders get the peer support resources they need. Over the past several years, Erin has realized that peer support is an important component, but there are other critical aspects of first responder mental health that are being ignored. Leadership and management behaviors, actions (or inaction), and lack of accountability in ensuring a psychologically safe culture can also account for the missing pieces in this very important puzzle.
Erin Yeung has been in public safety dispatch for 18 years; 9 of those years as a supervisor. She runs the podcast "Your Oxygen Mask First" and contracts for the State of Nevada Division of Child and Family Services as a System Advocate/PIO in what spare time she has. Erin holds a B.S. in Business Management and Advanced PIO certification from FEMA./EMI. She loves spending time with her family, playing ice hockey, and geeking out on mental health and public relations topics with anyone who will listen.
