AMCP Student Pharmacist Committee Chair Texas A&M Health Science Center
Pharmacists are challenged throughout their education and career to stay current with comprehensive treatments and care for patients, and the role of the pharmacist continues to evolve and expand. With increasing awareness and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community, pharmacists should be equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide affirming care, particularly for those who identify as transgender or gender non-binary.
Join this session to gain a better understanding of how pharmacists can positively impact the transgender community in practice, contribute to a more equitable health care environment, and provide appropriate pharmacotherapy recommendations. This session is geared towards student pharmacists, but all are welcome to join as we all constantly learn how to embrace diversity.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Define terminology often used by LGBTQ+ identifying individuals.
Describe the health disparities that exist for transgender and gender non-binary individuals.
Identify pharmacotherapy options for gender affirmation.
Discuss how managed care pharmacists can positively impact transgender and gender non-binary individuals.
