Library users love newspapers! They seek them out for many reasons, ranging from tracing a family history to trying to get a glimpse into an earlier time and place. Teachers may use them in the classroom. Researchers may use them as data sources, or fodder for text-mining projects.
In this session, we will continue our discussion of newspapers from the January 2022 History Section Discussion with a focus on how we can promote the preservation, digitization and access to local newspapers. What challenges have we faced in offering access to local newspapers? What strategies have we developed to respond to these needs? How can we better advocate for our users with regard to access to these important resources?
We welcome participation from those who joined us for the previous discussion and anyone else who is interested in discussing this topic.
This event is sponsored by the ALA RUSA History Section Discussion Group.
