Amanda E. Landis is the branch librarian for the John Wesley Powell Library of Anthropology for Smithsonian Libraries and Archives, where she manages a large collection that documents the Smithsonian Institution’s role in the development of American anthropology. Amanda is the former co-chair of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Committee (SLA-DEAI) and currently serves as manager of the DEAI collection. During her time at Smithsonian Libraries, she has also composed a DEAI Glossary of Terms; founded the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Affinity Group; and created the BIPOC Fiction Book Club, which she hosts monthly. Prior to joining the Smithsonian as a library technician in 2018, she was an archives technician for the National Archives and Records Administration. Amanda earned her BA in Anthropology with a minor in Latin American and Iberian studies from the University of Hawai’i-Mānoa and her MSLIS with a concentration in archives management from Simmons College.
