Jillian Rudes is the school librarian at a 6th-12th grade, public school in Queens, New York. She is the Japanese Culture & Manga special collections librarian for the New York City Department of Education, as well as, the founder and host of the international webinar series Manga in Libraries. She currently serves as the President of the New York City School Librarians’ Association. She also currently serves as a Committee Associate for the American Library Association’s Annual Conference Committee. She recently served as the Co-Chair of the 2021 American Association of School Librarians’ National Conference Committee. She was awarded the American Association of School Librarians’ Collaborative School Library Award in 2020. She received the American Library Association's Scholastic Library Publishing Award in 2022 and is a Library Journal Mover & Shaker for 2022. She also volunteers for the Graphic Novels and Comics Round Table's virtual program planning committee. She has presented on graphic novels, comics, and manga at New York Comic Con, San Diego Comic Con, the American Library Association’s Annual Conference, the International Association of School Librarianship’s Annual Conference, and more. She has two articles being published about manga in 2022, A School Librarian’s Journey Through Manga Collection Development for AASL’s Knowledge Quest, and Social-Emotional Learning and Manga for ALA’s Booklist.
