Catherine Tong (they/them) is a first-year at UC Berkeley studying Comparative Literature, focusing on Chinese and English. As a premed, they also intend to major in Molecular Environmental Biology, focusing on Environment and Human Health. Before volunteering for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library, Catherine had competed in Parliamentary Debate for over two years and was just starting out as Chair of Parliamentary Debate. They started Speech & Debate: Global Citizenship due to realizing how children are a commonly forgotten demographic in social justice advocacy. Catherine is passionate about equity and accessibility education/activism at all age levels, intersectionality, and discrimination as an institutional and public health issue. Lastly, Catherine knows how all children wish to be taken seriously and to be heard. Speech & Debate: Global Citizenship is a class that just does that—take children seriously and teach them how to utilize the full power of their voice.
