Pre-Service Special Education Teacher

Julianna Chen graduated from Messiah University's teacher education program in May of 2022, with certifications in both elementary grades and special education across Pre-K through 12th grades. Julianna has been involved in campus leadership related to multi-cultural equity and diversity through the Martin Scholars Program. Passionate about representation of children of color in literature, she co-leads the Building Belongingness through Children’s Literature project on her campus. She was also awarded a grant supporting purchase of multicultural children’s books for donation to local urban classrooms as she educated local teachers in the need for representation in media. As an active member of the Society of Children's Book Illustrators and Writers, she writes children's book manuscripts with a mission to allow children to be seen through text. Julianna is preparing to teach in schools with a mission of inclusivity and diversity.
