Associate Professor of Special Education

Melinda Burchard is an Associate Professor of Special Education and Coordinator of the Special Education Program at Messiah University in Pennsylvania. She holds her Ph.D. in special education and teacher education from George Mason University, her M.Ed. in special education from James Madison University, and her bachelors from the College of William and Mary, all in Virginia. She teaches courses about methods for teaching children with disabilities in both the general education curriculum and adapted curriculum, and positive behavior support. Her scholarship includes IEP quality, evidence-based practices, and ways to intervene in support of struggling learners. Her previous scholarship at the American Library Association was about how early undergraduate information literacy skills predicted self-efficacy of pre-service teachers for finding and evaluating what teaching practices work best.
