Soo Young Rieh is Professor and Associate Dean for Education in the School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin. After obtaining her PhD in communication, information, and library studies from Rutgers University, she was on the faculty of University of Michigan School of Information. Her research areas include human information behavior, web searching behavior, information literacy, credibility assessment in information seeking, and search as learning. She was the Principal Investigator (PI) of the IMLS-funded Library as Research Lab project, and is currently serving as the Co-PI of the IDEA (Innovation, Disruption, Enquiry, Access) Institute on Artificial Intelligence (AI) funded by IMLS. Rieh served as a Director-at-large to the Board of Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) from 2017 to 2020. She is an Associate Editor for Information and Learning Sciences published by Emerald. She also has served as a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology (JASIST) and Library and Information Science Research. Rieh is a recipient of several research awards including ASIS&T SIG USE Outstanding Contributions to Information Behavior Research Award (2019), Best JASIST Paper Award (2005, 2011), ACM SIGIR CHIIR Honorable Mention (2019), ASIS&T Best Conference Paper Award (2010), and Eugene Garfield-ALISE Doctoral Dissertation Award (2002).
