Board of Directors
Friends of the Knox County Public Library
A former English teacher and high school drama director/coach, Diane P. Tuccillo earned her MLS degree from Rutgers University. After briefly working as a Young Adult Librarian for two years, she became the long-time Young Adult Coordinator at the City of Mesa Library in Arizona where she advised a dynamic, nationally-known library teen advisory group for 27 years. Most recently, she was Teen Services Librarian at the Poudre River Public Library District in Fort Collins, Colorado for 10 years where she co-led a vibrant teen advisory group.
Tuccillo has been actively involved in and has received awards from several professional organizations, including the Young Adult Library Services Association, the Assembly on Literature for Adolescents of the National Council of Teachers of English, and the Arizona Library Association and has been a book reviewer and article contributor for professional journals and resource books. Her first book, Library Teen Advisory Groups (Scarecrow, 2005) was followed by Teen-Centered Library Service: Putting Youth Participation into Practice (Libraries Unlimited, 2010). Her third book was the completely revised and updated second edition of Library Teen Advisory Groups (Rowman & Littlefield, 2018) and was followed by Totally Tweens & Teens: Youth-Created and Youth-Led Library Programs (Rowman & Littlefield, 2020); the Teen Library Internships Handbook (Rowman & Littlefield, 2021); and Library Friends, Foundations, and Trusts Handbook (Rowman & Littlefield, 2024).
During her long librarianship career, Tuccillo worked closely with Friends of the Library members to gain support for youth library programs and activities; got teenagers involved with the Friends as volunteers; and helped to get teen representatives serving on library trustee and Friends boards of directors. During the two years between her early retirement from the Mesa Library position and securing the one at the Poudre River Public Library District, she freelanced around the country providing librarian education workshops at libraries large and small; taught library science courses; and served on the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Mesa Library. Later, she served on the Board of Directors of the Poudre River Friends of the Library and as a Poudre River Public Library volunteer for four years after her final retirement. Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors of the Knox County Friends of the Library in Knoxville, Tennessee.
