Kirsten Grünberg has a MSLIS degree and Advanced Certificate of Digital Humanities from the School of Information at Pratt Institute. While there, she received the Pratt Circle Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in Library & Information Science and an Advanced Certificate of Digital Humanities. She received a PhD in Social and Cultural Studies from the University of Costa Rica, as well as an M.Ed. in International Education from Framingham University, and a BA in Fine Arts from Universidad Autónoma de Centroamérica. Since 2014, Kirsten has been an active member of the Committee on Teaching about the United Nations and since 2010 she has been a member of the the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Professional Honorary Society of Women Educators.
Kirsten's experiences of creating multilingual and multicultural opportunities for educators, youth, families, and the general public are reflected in her participation at various activities held at the United Nations. Because of her participation in these events, Kirsten was invited to become an active member of the Committee Teaching About the United Nations (CTAUN) and has served in various organization committees during the following conferences held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York: “Stepping Up to Protect the World’s Children”, (April 6, 2018), “Refugees: The 21st Century Challenge” (January 27, 2017), “Stewardship for a Sustainable World: Education in the Sustainable Development Goals” (January 22, 2016), and ““The UN at 70: Making a Difference” (January 30, 2015).
Currently a supervisor of the Children's Services Department of the Hyattsville Library in the Prince George's County Memorial Library System, Kirsten was instrumental in translating the Hatchings materials, forging partnerships with community organizations, recruiting Spanish speaking program participants, revising Hatchlings to be culturally relevant for a Spanish speaking audience, and presenting virtual Spanish language versions of Hatchlings.
