Dr. Audrey Barbakoff is the Community Engagement and Economic Development Manager at King County Library System. She received her EdD in Organizational Change and Leadership from the University of Southern California, where her dissertation research focused on building organizational capacity for community-led adult programs in public libraries. She is active in developing and mentoring leaders in ALA and in her community, having served as chair of the ALA Emerging Leaders subcommittee, a board member for Leadership Kitsap, and a member of the advisory board for Bellevue College’s certificate program in design thinking. Her ALA service also includes ALA Council, IFRT Chair, and LLAMA Board of Directors. For her innovative programs and services, Dr. Barbakoff has been recognized as a Library Journal Mover & Shaker and a Kitsap Business Journal 40 Under 40. She designed and led a service recognized by the Urban Library Council as 2020’s Top Innovator in Workforce and Economic Development. Dr. Barbakoff received her MLIS from the University of Washington. She is the author of Adults Just Wanna Have Fun: Programs for Emerging Adults, and her book tentatively titled 12 Steps to a Community-Led Library is forthcoming from ALA Editions in fall 2022. Outside of libraries, you can find her DIY-ing around the house, playing her 2-year-old child’s favorite songs on the guitar, and tending her vegetable garden.
