Director of Library and Information Technology
City of Gulfport
David is the Director of Library and Information Technology for the City of Gulfport, Florida. In 2016, I was named Florida Librarian of the Year by the Florida Library Association. Under his direction, the library won the GLBTRT, American Library Association 2018 Newlen-Symons Award for Excellence in Serving the GLBT Community. In addition, the library won the prestigious 2019 National Medal for Museum and Library Service from The Institute of Museum and Library Services. In 2014 he worked with members of the Gulfport community to establish the LGBTQ Resource Center of the Gulfport Public Library. The first of its kind reource center and collection in a public library, in Flroida. The Resource Center, in partnership with the Library, has put on large-scale events including; a Pride Parade and Pride flag raising at the Gulfport Library, ReadOut: a three day event for and about lesbian authors (in 2020 we went virtual and we had over 1000 participents worldwide) and ArtOut, a celebration of local LGBTQ artists and thier allys. Before the pandemic it was not uncommon that the library we see 150-200 participents and events and programs. Before his time with Gulfport, he was a member of Pasco County Library’s leadership team. His goal is to create programming, establish and strengthen community partnerships, institutepolicies and craft library spaces that provide each patron with a quality library experience they deserve. He holds a Master of Science in Library and Information Technology from Drexel University (2004), an MA in American History from Villanova University, and a BA in Political Science.
