Teen Site Coordinator
Queens Public Library
Eyitami Oyarijivbie is currently the Teen Center Site Coordinator at Queens Public Library. Driven by her determination to make a difference, Eyitami has aimed to support community services through a variety of areas. Starting off as a Teachers Assistance for the Adult Literacy program, she went on to become and Case Manager, Youth Counselor, and now, Coordinator for Youth Services. From the beginning, being a resource to the community has been a personal goal she aimed to attain. Making a difference, by providing said resources, a listening ear, and opportunities, Eyitami assists between 50-75 youth per day after school.
Notable achievements include implementing a reservation system in the teen space for those that preferred a different way to request assistance, drivers permit workshop as part of a job readiness program and cultivated virtual engagement during the pandemic for at risk youth to keep in contact with youth counselors they depended on prior to. What Eyitami is most proud of are the teens and the impact that the services have on them. She prides herself on the frequency of those that aged out return to say hello and share their appreciation to younger teens in attendance.
What drives Eyitami the most is being a support system for the teens. Recognizing what she did not have in her young adult life, progressive programs and services are implemented to assist teens in getting a job, choosing positive alternative pathways, as well as just being a better person. Living by the quote "It takes all sorts to make a world" Eyitami’s approach is reinforced by her belief that teens need a safe world. A safe space in the library that they can go from 2:30pm-6pm is her start.
