Jenna Spiering, PhD, is an assistant professor in the School of Information Science at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC. She has authored numerous articles and book chapters, as well as co-authored a forthcoming book. She has presented at conferences locally, nationally, and internationally about issues pertaining to school librarianship and young adult literature (particularly graphic novels and LGBTQ literature), as well as issues of censorship and selection, curation, and literature discussion. She also routinely conducts professional development sessions for school librarians around the state of South Carolina. Her publications have appeared in The ALAN Review, English Journal, Study and Scrutiny: Research in Young Adult Literature, Knowledge Quest and School Libraries Worldwide. She was recently awarded a 2020 AASL Research Grant and elected the secretary of the Educators of School Librarians’ Section (ESLS) of the American Library Association.
