My name is Tracey Phillips. I am the Activities & Events Manager for The Louisville Public Library. I am also the Lead Coordinator of our Sensory Room. My department hosts all of our programming such as Storytimes, Adult Crafts, school outreach programs and community events. We host all of our regular programming in our Sensory Room. This is a great way to introduce to our community everything the room has to offer.
During our closure of the pandemic we did not host in-person programs. Instead we filmed videos for our patrons to watch online. We set up lighting and green screen equipment and turned our Sensory Room into a temporary filming studio. With the open floor plan of the Sensory Room, we also use it as a meeting space when needed.
Not only do we host our programs in the Sensory Room currently. We also schedule private sessions for outside organizations and families. Such as a local DD school may bring their class for a play time or maybe just a mom and her child come for the calming atmosphere. Our Sensory Room has proven to be a valuable asset to our library and our community.
