KULU, THE WISE TURTLE is a multicultural children's book.
A fable is a story with animals that have human characteristics. The Kulu fable teaches the youth proper behavior, respect for self and others. Fables help societies create a sense of unity, gives adults sources for reflection and shows that friendships can be sincere even if the friends are different.
Kulu encourages the youth to see good in themselves and others. He makes them aware that consideration of others and forgiveness are important. He, also, instructs them how to work together to carry an important mission. Ms. Mveng is an American who lived in Cameroon West Africa for 18 years. She observed the youth’s behavior. She returned to the US and taught our students on four levels; elementary, junior and high schools and university. She travelled to many counties. She took her university students to Japan for them to observe its culture and its art. She had concerns for our students here in the US. After her experiences overseas and here, she decided to write Kulu, The Wise Turtle with her Howard University professor of African art, Dr Kwaku Ofori Ansa. The characters in the book actually belonged to Brenda Mveng when she was in Cameroon.
