Book Title: We Are Your Children Too: Black Students, White Supremacists, and the Battle for America's Schools in Prince Edward County, Va
Book Description: The battle for public education in Prince Edward County, VA, began in 1951 when high school junior Barbara Johns led a student strike for a better Moton High School. The strikers then filed suit demanding desegregation, a suit that became part of Brown v Board of Education. But local White supremacists in Prince Edward closed all of the county’s public schools for five years, leaving a new generation of Black and some White children with no schooling at all. The PEC story is about pain and intentional deprivation, but it’s also about resilience, resourcefulness, and eventual work toward reconciliation.
