Sunday, June 26, 2022
4:00pm – 5:00pm
Location: Washington Convention Center, 145A
According to AASL, a school librarian is a teacher, an instructional partner, an information specialist, a program administrator and a leader. Do you ever struggle with how to balance these roles? Are you looking for ways to evaluate how well you fulfill each of them? Learn how to implement new resources that school librarians can use for self-evaluation, professional growth, goal setting, and advocacy! Join the Legislative and Advocacy Committee chairs from the Virginia Association of School Librarians (VAASL) as we discuss the resources recently published by VAASL, and applicable to school librarians everywhere. You will leave this session with tools, concrete examples to help answer these questions and research to support why school librarians are essential. The session will also include strategies to advocate for the school library profession at the school, division, state and national levels.
Learning Objectives:
School Librarians will evaluate how they fulfill the roles of teacher, information partner, information specialist, program administrator, and leader using newly published resources from the Virginia Association of School Librarians.
Librarians will construct professional growth goals based on their self-evaluations in order to achieve stronger and more equitable libraries.
Librarians will analyze the research used in the creation of these resources so that they are able to support and advocate for their profession.
