CANCELLED: Kids Read the North! Canadian Children Books for Everyone

While Canada is known for great hockey players and fantastic beer, the best of Canada’s children’s books might not be as familiar to our American friends. Canada has an enduring history of excellent books for children and every year brings a new crop of unforgettable stories for all children, especially Indigenous books for young readers. This session will include book talking, author readings, program ideas, trivia questions, giveaways, and a whole lot of warmth from the North. Co-presented by Canadian children’s literature educator, a children’s librarian working in Canada, and a Canadian children’s book author, participants will leave with a renewed appreciation for Canada’s children’s books and some fresh ideas about how to integrate awesome Canadian Kidlit into their library’s collections and programs.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion, participants will be able to better understand Canadian children's literature as a unique and important resource for inclusion in a diverse collection aimed at all children.
Upon completion, participants will be able to use a range of diverse Canadian hi/lo books, which are aimed at meeting the needs of underserved children and youth.
Upon completion, participants will be able to integrate children's literature from north of the border, including Indigenous books from what is now called Canada, into their diverse literacy objectives.
