Tim started his fire career as a paid on-call firefighter with Green Oak Charter Township Fire Department in Brighton, Michigan. He was promoted to Captain and full-time fire inspector the following year. Not long after, he was asked to be a NFPA Instructor for Inspector I, Inspector 2 and Plans Examiner at local colleges and fire departments in Michigan. Within a few years, he was promoted to Fire Marshal.
Tim was successful in helping to reduce the number of fires in the Green Oak business community throughout his career. He was instrumental in closing a local business that was severally out of compliance and refused to become compliant, which posed a major threat to loss of life. During this time, it became obvious that having all members of the fire department be familiar with each building was imperative. In the process of closing this business, he developed a very close working relationship with the local building official and the State Fire Marshal’s office. He strongly advocates building those relationships, which maximizes the reduction of loss of life as well as achieving successful outcomes for local businesses, business owners and their employees.
Tim has numerous certifications including: Pro Board NBFSPQ Fire Investigator NFPA 1033, Certified Fire Inspector & Plans Examiner, Advanced Fire Investigation, Public Safety Preparedness, Rescue, Disaster Response, Fire Protection and several more. Tim graduated from Eastern Michigan University's Staff and Command Executive Leadership Program.
After 17 years with Green Oak Charter Township Fire Department and 16 years of teaching, Tim retired and now owns a Fire Safety Consulting Company. He is passionate about saving lives and shares his experience at conferences around the country. He lives in Tennessee with his wife Renay and dog Jace.
