John S. D’Alessandro is the Association Secretary and Volunteer Programs Coordinator for the Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY). In addition to developing and implementing statewide recruitment and retention strategies, he advises senior leadership on communications, legislative and membership issues. He is also responsible for the Association’s magazine (the Volunteer Firefighter) and the management of the organization’s SAFER and legislative grant awards.
Mr. D’Alessandro has presented on critical fire service issues for the National Professional Development Symposium (National Fire Academy), the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), the National Volunteer Fire Council, the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs and the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control. He has also been chosen to present at the 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC).
He served as the Recruitment Lane Leader for the IAFC’s Vision Project and is currently a member of the IAFC VOLS SME Working Group, the IAFC VCOS Communications Committee and the NVFC SAFER Work Group . He also represents FASNY on the Fire Service Occupational Cancer Alliance, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s Cancer Workgroup and the NYS Fire Service Council. Firematically, he is a Commissioner of the Halfmoon-Waterford Fire District #1 (Saratoga County, NY) and remains an active interior firefighter with the Halfmoon Fire Department.
In addition to his work at the Firemen’s Association, Mr. D’Alessandro has more than forty-five years’ experience in the areas of public affairs, media relations, crisis communications, policy development and strategic planning.
