James Rychard is a firefighter and instructor from the City of Burlington, Ontario Canada. He has been employed for over 20 years, working for two diverse fire services: the Cambridge Fire Department (career); and the Burlington Fire Department (combination). With a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, James has merged his passion for studying team dynamics, as well as organizational and human behaviour with the job of firefighting. As a result, he is an accomplished author writing for both Firefighting in Canada and Canadian Firefighter magazines where he writes on topics related to teamwork, leadership, and best practices. James sits on three committees: IAFC's VCOS committee, the CAFC's Human Factors /Human Performance (a new committee for 2022 which James was the architect behind its creation) and Humber College Fire Services' Program Advisory Committee. In his spare time, James enjoys actively engaging in nature, spending time away from the job hiking, cycling, and reading.
