Sydney Silverstein is a medical anthropologist and filmmaker who studies the broad social impacts of the War on Drugs in both the United States and Peru. She earned her PhD from Emory University, and has published numerous articles on issues related to the production, circulation, and consumption of coca(ine), opioids, methamphetamine, and pharmaceuticals, as well as on treatment and recovery from substance use disorders. Her research has been funded by grants from Fulbright-Hays Foundation, the Wenner Gren Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health. She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Center for Interventions, Treatment, and Addictions Research (CITAR) in the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences at the Boonshoft School of Medicine, Wright State University.
