James Cormier is the Overdose Response Strategy (ORS) High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) National Coordinator. Prior to his current role Jim was the Drug Intelligence Officer (DIO) for Massachusetts with the ORS for six years. Jim had a 33-year career as a police officer in Reading, MA, rising to the rank of Chief of Police serving for 11 years in that role prior to retiring. The ORS is a nationwide program supported by ONDCP and CDC with the mission of reducing overdoses and overdose deaths by facilitating public health/public safety collaboration.
Jim has a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Western New England College, his undergraduate studies were also in Criminal Justice Administration and holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Salem State College. Jim attended the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at The Harvard Kennedy School in 2014. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the 233rd session which ran in the spring of 2008.
