When a dentist and/or their staff is offended by a patient’s comments, they can typically respond in one of three ways: Ignore the comment, call the patient out while “agreeing to disagree” or dismiss the patient. Each response raises its own ethical issues and in this session, those ethical issues will be discussed in an effort to help providers and staff identify the most ethical way forward for them and their patients.
Learning Objectives:
Identify the ethical risks and benefits responding or not responding to a patient’s offensive comments
Understand how the ADA Principles of Ethics & Code of Professional Conduct applies to an offers guidance
Consider a range of ethically permissible responses
