The opioid epidemic claims over 100,000 lives annually, directly affecting dentists with increased governmental scrutiny (prescription monitoring programs, new CE requirements) and the potential for increased abuse and diversion by patients. These factors have now reached a level at which dentists may feel the need to abandon the administration and prescription of opioids entirely and declare their practices "opioid-free." This course explores that possibility and its limitations.

Identify cases in which opioid analgesics may be the only option for analgesia
Select effective analgesic strategies for cases in which opioid analgesics are contraindicated
Learn the optimal use of drug combinations for the management of acute postoperative pain
