In this lecture, Dr. Burton will shed light on one of the biggest struggles with Class 2 restorations: The Wedge. We will focus on what physics are involved in the wedging step, how current wedges/techniques struggle to overcome these hurdles, and what we need to do to fix them. Dr. Burton has discovered that no matter what matrix system is used, the wedge plays a critical role in restoration placement, matrix set-up, and restoration success. Pre-registration is required.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the true role played by the wedge in posterior direct composites
Learn how the wedge impacts & influences proximal contact and restoration contour
Identify strengths and weaknesses of current matrix systems, and learn to maximize the strengths
