This session discusses how COVID-19 mitigation strategies such as face masks and social distancing affect the communication pathway during face-to-face communication, including how the speech signal is altered by masking and distance. The session examines the populations of individuals who may be more at-risk for communication breakdowns in the school setting and presents strategies to facilitate effective communication that balances students’ diverse needs.
