Dr. Feindel is Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto and the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre at University Health Network where he has been an academic cardiac surgeon for over 35 years. He began his career as an electrical engineer at the National Research Council of Canada after which he returned to school to obtain his MD from McGill University in 1976. He obtained his General Surgery Fellowship from the University of Western Ontario and his Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Fellowship from the University of Toronto in 1984. He received a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from Harvard University in 2001 and completed the Director’s Education Program at the University of Toronto Rotman School of Management in 2015. Dr. Feindel’s surgical specialties include aortic valve repair, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), surgery for aortic aneurysms, mitral valve repair and complex reoperations of the heart. He has over 140 publications.
Dr. Feindel is a member of the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Board and previously served on the board of the Cardiac Care Network of Ontario (CCN) for 8 years. Through CCN (now CorHealth Ontario) he founded the Ontario Cardiac Surgery Quality Collaborative, a group dedicated to the sharing of clinical outcomes and best practices in cardiac surgery across Ontario’s 11 cardiac surgery centres. He is past President of the Canadian Society of Cardiac Surgeons and is a member of the Medical-Legal Society of Toronto. He is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors having obtained his ICD.D designation in 2015.
