Wouter Oosterlinck
MD, PhD
Cardiac surgeon UZ Leuven
From the start I have a specific interest in ischemic heart disease and performed my PhD on ischemia reperfusion in diabetes mellitus and the metabolic syndrome. I was trained in a center with a strong focus on beating heart surgery. I started RA MIDCAB procedures in july 2015 and completed my training with the aid of Dr Francis Sutter (Lankenau, Philadelphia) and Dr Sam Balkhy (Chicago University). Currently, we have performed over 500 RA MIDCAB cases with an annual case load of over 100. I am chair of the EACTS robotic taskforce and have a strong passion for training and teaching other surgeons. Together we have the goal to implement RA MIDCAB worldwide safely and to increase the minimally invasive options for every cardiac surgeon.
