Dr. Ghoreishi joined the faculty of the Division of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in August as an Assistant Professor. He focuses his efforts on adult cardiac surgery and endovascular and open repair of aortic disease. His initial work in the Cardiac Surgery Laboratory during his research fellowship led to him co-inventing a device (Harpoon, Inc) that has enabled image-guided beating-heart mitral valve repair in patients. During his chief residency year at Maryland, Dr. Ghoreishi and his co-residents have designed a special Bi-directional Cannula for VA - Extra – Corporal Membrane Oxygenation. They also designed a multi – purpose wire. They initiated a start – up company to help introducing this novel catheter and wire to the world for better patient’s care. Dr. Ghoreishi, in his training years at Maryland, was able to publish multiple papers, including a senior-authored publication in Circulation describing the initial clinical experience with the Harpoon device, a novel risk score for mortality risk after acute type A repair (Maryland Risk Score), STS database analysis for stroke risk after type A repair, ascending endovascular stent placement, utilizing ECMO during thoracoabdominal aneurysm repair. Dr. Ghoreishi has been selected as the national 2019 Denton A. Cooley Fellowship recipient by the prestigious American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS). His clinical and research focus is mostly on patients with aortic aneurysm and aortic dissection.
